MARINE RESEARCH CENTRE

The Marine Research Centre at Alorie Lepa Lepa will assist local and international scientific research and work towards preserving existing reefs in addition to establishing coral gardens and artificial reefs for enriching the marine life.

The facilities of our Marine Research Centre will be available to educational institutions, NGOs, government departments and accredited international researchers wishing to carry out scientific research and programmes.

Concern has been expressed over the environmental degradation occurring around Sipadan, resulting largely from divers going on shore to rest between dives. Efforts are currently underway to identify alternative facilities to relieve this pressure on Sipadan by providing a facility for divers known as the 1 Sipadan Marine Eco Platform.

A comprehensive range of environmentally friendly practices will be adopted on this purpose-built marine environmental platform which will serve divers to Sipadan and Mabul. There will be ample undercover seating, as well as an upper deck with sun lounges, plus a dive platform providing easy access for divers.

There will also be a dedicated area for marine scientists to conduct research, plus an informative presentation on reefs presented by our resident marine naturalist.

To assist in seabed habitat preservation and ensuring healthy coral reefs, Alorie Lepa Lepa will repair already degraded reefs in the area, and encourage the growth of marine life by improving the existing reefs through transplanting fallen or upturned corals. To further enhance the health of the coral reefs, manual weeding will be done to prevent the growth of destructive algae.

New artificial reefs will be created to benefit marine life, providing new habitats with new food sources. Furthermore, the marine life attracted by these artificial reefs will provide enjoyment and interest for snorkellers and divers alike.

Alorie Lepa Lepa offers Malaysia’s first Thalassotherapy Spa, featuring an ancient Roman therapy refined in France in the 19th century. Treatments harness the healing powers of the sea and include wraps of seaweed or marine mud, hydro-massage and seawater showers to tone, moisturise and revitalise the body.

The tranquil environment is perfect for those who wish to practice a yoga pose while meditating upon the ocean. More dynamic activity is available in the Resort’s Fitness Centre, where guests can work out using the latest equipment.

Beyond the Blue

Beyond the Blue

The pleasures of the sea are just the beginning in Sabah, the embodiment of all that is exciting in Borneo. Its rainforests are home to an amazing array of plants and wildlife, including endangered rhinos, the world’s smallest elephant, sun bears, gibbons and exquisite orchids.

In eastern Sabah, wildlife reserves with world-class lodges, and sanctuaries such as Sepilok, bring visitors face-to-face with the gentle orangutan and a host of other intriguing wildlife.

An unforgettable cruise along the mighty Kinabatangan river promises endemic pot-bellied proboscis monkeys, hornbills and some of the most beautiful birds to be seen anywhere. And to top it all, the highest mountain in this region of Southeast Asia, Mount Kinabalu (4,093 metres), provides the ultimate adventure.

With more than 35 different tribal groups, Sabah has long been famed for the easy tolerance and genuine hospitality of its people. This is a land where modern facilities and infrastructure exist alongside age-old traditions. No surprise, then, that Sabah is an increasingly popular destination for visitors seeking an experience like no other.

SERVICES

In addition to Alorie’s hallmarks of a great bedding and bathroom experience, service is designed to offer the maximum in comfort and response with the minumun of fuss and intrusion.

Pre check in, turndown when needed, efficient and crisp in-villa service are all designed to ensure the privacy and well being of our elite and exclusive international clientele.

HOW TO GET THERE

Alorie Lepa Lepa is easily accessible via the international airports of Kota Kinabalu and Tawau in Sabah, followed by a road trip to the launching point near Semporna, where a comfortable speedboat, seaplane or helicopter completes the journey.

Alorie Lepa Lepa is surprisingly accessible. The gateway town of Tawau is served by direct daily flights from Sabah’s capital, Kota Kinabalu, and from the Malaysian capital of Kuala Lumpur.

From there, it is a comfortable 50 minute drive to The Asannang – operated by Alorie, a luxurious resort which is the departure point for a 15 minute speedboat ride to Alorie Lepa Lepa, located near Mabul island.

To the north of Lepa Lepa is Tun Sakaran Marine Park, while to the south — and a short boat ride from the resort — lies the world famous dive site of Sipadan, hailed by Jacques Cousteau as “an untouched piece of art”.
